Based in New Zealand, Studio Muse is dedicated to the creation of conscious and thoughtful design.
Founded by Matisse Whittfield, the studio works within the domains of interior architecture — both commercial and residential — as well as styling and creative direction.
The essence of our work is a holistic and collaborative process from ideation through to realisation, guiding towards the concept of balance. A balance between form and function, order and openness, without the interference of trends or technology noise. With each design, we place an importance on aesthetic simplicity and human experience, guided by the client or brand, to ensure a high-quality outcome that provides both longevity and attention to detail — a design that may seem simple but executes a deeper remedy.
Matisse grew up knowing there was no limit to creativity; a freedom her parents passionately fostered and one that encouraged endless curiosities and a desire to problem solve. Graduating from Victoria University’s School of Architecture with an Honours in Interior Architecture, Matisse went on to develop her experience within a wide range of design practices both in the UK and throughout Australasia.
Using the knowledge and experience gained through various disciplines that included high-end commercial, retail environments, and mixed-use developments — accompanied by a further focus on brand design and awareness — Matisse was able to channel her experience and maturity of understanding into the inception of the boutique design studio, Studio Muse.
